GCSE Fine Art Exam: Beginning and/or End
Beginning and / or End is the 2017 title for the GCSE Fine Art exam project. You will have a period of 8-10 weeks (plus the Spring half term and Easter holiday) to develop your ideas through preparatory studies before spending two days in the Art department realising your final outcome as part of the 10 hour, controlled assessment. You should aim to be ambitious in your final outcome and presentation.
The exam paper is full of ideas to help you get started. Your Art teachers will also set class and home work tasks that will enable you to have the best start possible for your exam project. Make sure everything is documented clearly in your sketchbook.

What's next...?
Once you have completed the tasks set by your teacher you need to consider three starting points for your own response to the theme. Each idea must be supported by a rationale, link to an artist and your own images. Look through the power point, the exam paper and also the links below to help you.
Having said this, you can choose to build on any of the processes and themes visited during the set tasks above.

The Art department loves Pinterest. It's a great way to collect images, artists and ideas relevant to a theme. Make a free account then search for the exam theme. You will come across an infinite number of 'pins' that are relevant. If you select to search for boards you will discover Art teachers and GCSE Art students from all over the country who have already started to collate their own images in response to Past, Present and / or Future. Click on the screen grab below to see for yourself.
REMEMBER:
Anything you see on pinterest that you wish to explore should be within the context of your development and either fit in with your ideas or inspire a new strand. We had a student who simply recreated works that she 'liked' without considering the direction her project was moving. She didn't score very highly in any Assessment Objective- you have been warned!

Here is a useful Powerpoint from Beaumont School to help you develop your strands.
NB: DATES FOR THE EXAM / HOMEWORK SET ARE NOT THE SAME AS OURS!
However....
...if you have not managed to complete the set tasks successfully you will be required to follow the department set project. You can also choose to do this project if you prefer to be told what to do for the entire time.
