Embedding Images in Maps
Google Maps Project
Google has made it very easy to create and share maps by offering free mapping software such as Google Earth and Maps.
We have been creating an interactive map of the local area, which we have stored in Flickr and then embedded into a Google Map. This has enabled us to create a growing archive of documented images of the local area.
We also believe that Google maps are great for actively engaging with our local environment and encourage a sense of discovery. In our photography project 'Good, Bad, Ugly', we asked students to document areas of the locality according to these themes as a starting point for a discussion on subjectivity and perceptions of beauty.
There are also many cross-curricular opportunities to link subjects such as art, photography, geography, citizenship, maths, etc.. The site Goolery documents projects that have been initiated using Google applications.
